There are foods that you can eat that are good for your skin to prevent cell structure damage that can lead to wrinkles, fine lines and loss of firmness. I recommend half a cup of blueberries daily, as it will help smooth fine lines. One of my favorite vegetables that also help me look younger is spinach. Spinach contains beta-carotene and lutein nutrients that have been proven to improve elasticity to help firm your skin. I suggest that you serve yourself three cups per week.<o:p></o:p></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;"><br />

</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">Growing up, I watched my mom deal with the difficulty of having asthma and other health issues.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>My mom was overweight and did very little exercise.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>She often had to fight to catch her breath when she was just walking.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Lucky for me, I am the only one in the family who inherited asthma from my mom.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>As a child, I knew I didn’t want to be unhealthy like her.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">I developed my own eating habits and exercise routine.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I didn’t make excuses for myself for not having perfect lungs and I make sure to stay active and jog often.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I jogged everyday to build up my endurance and my breathing.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Up to this day, I have no problem running 4 miles daily even with asthma.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>However, if you’re just starting out, be sure to consult your physician before any new exercise program.<o:p></o:p></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;"><br />

</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">In Vietnam, my family was very well off but that was all taken away during the Fall of Saigon (Vietnam War) and we lost everything we have.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It wasn’t easy but my mom worked and mange to pay my uncle $18,000 US dollar for the 6 of us including myself to flee the country by boat.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>My uncle took the money and left us behind.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Full of determination, my mom later managed to pay a complete stranger the same and got us out of Vietnam.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We lived in a refugee camp in Singapore for 2 years until we were able to come to the US.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Life wasn’t easy but when you have nothing, there’s only one way to go…up!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">The fist time I remember seeing my mom was when I was 12 yrs old when she came over to the US and joined the rest of the family.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I remembered her still wanting to see my uncle even though he stole from her.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>She told us all that we must forgive him for what he’s done.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Although I’ve learned to forgive, it doesn’t mean I’ll allow bad people into my life.<o:p></o:p></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">I learned a lot from my mom.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>She was a beautiful, strong yet simple woman.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>She didn’t know how to hate and didn’t hold any resentment with my uncle.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We didn’t have a lot for having to start our lives over but my mom always managed to send money back to Vietnam to help people that were worse off than we were.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Even at church, she would give a nickel even if that was all she could afford to give.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">My family couldn’t afford to send their kids to college but paid for one of my cousins’ education and I remembered asking her once, “Why do you give money to strangers and not your own family?” <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>She said, “You’ll do just fine, other people need it more”.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>What my mom meant was that in America, we have the opportunity to achieve anything we desire.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>You just have to work for it and sometimes you have to work really hard.<o:p></o:p></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">By American standards, we had nothing but compared to others we had an opportunity to make our lives better.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I basically had two choices:<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I could be resentful or I could be independent on my own.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I chose to be independent and for years, I struggled with no help but it made me the strong person I am today. I learned early on that I can’t focus on the obstacles.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I forgive people who did me wrong and not live with any resentment.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I focus on my goals and I refuse to let the negativity get the best of me.<o:p></o:p></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">You can’t always control the situation like the economy, but you can control your response and action towards it.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>If you think you’re having a bad day, think about the wounded Veterans coming back from the war.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>When you feel badly about yourself, go help someone worse off than you. Times are tough right now, you may not able to change your immediate situation, but you can make a big difference in somebody else’s life and you’ll feel better about yourself.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>A small gesture goes a long way.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Go visit the wounded soldiers, help the disabled or volunteer your time.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It’ll help you to put things in perspective.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;"><br />

</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Recently, I met a woman on line and on paper she said all the rights things.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Independent, intelligent, artistic, out going, adventurous and athletic, these descriptions always catch my attention because I’ve always been drawn to people with common characteristics.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>After a few email ex-change, we met for lunch.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>To my surprise she was nothing like the way she described herself on paper.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">She didn’t have a job and her fiancé supports her. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>She was very conservative and I can tell she was high maintenance, as she would brag about the material things that her fiancé bought her.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Not long after meeting her, I could tell that she had a brain the size of a peanut and she’s nowhere near being athletic or adventurous.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Needless to say we had absolutely nothing in common and I found it to be a waste of time but I got through lunch and never saw her again.<o:p></o:p></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">I found myself wondering why she would describe herself with those characteristics?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Was she delusional?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>If I had to describe her, it would be:<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>conservative, reserved, high- maintenance, boring, ordinary, materialistic and fake.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>But I guess if she had used these actual descriptions, we probably would never have meet for lunch.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Then I thought, maybe she was that way a very long time ago or perhaps she is when compared to in her own circle.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>She had no sense of self and doesn’t realize she’s not the person that she described. <o:p></o:p></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">It got me thinking about myself and how others perceive me.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The worst thing for me is being judged by my appearance.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Thinking that I have breast implants or being categorize as high maintenance.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>There’s nothing wrong with it, but I’m not that type.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It doesn’t bother me too much because I have a sense of self and know exactly who I am.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It’s not always pleasant but I do straighten people out when I need to.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Some people spend their whole life not knowing themselves.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The next time you write a description about yourself, think about who you really are now and look deep inside. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It’s good to have a realistic sense of self.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>If you don’t, you may find yourself wearing a mask.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>If you find you’re describing yourself as you used to be or want to be then maybe it’s time to take action to become the person you dream of being.<o:p></o:p></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />

Everyone is different and depending on your body and goals, I recommend doing an hour or more of cardio per day if you’re serious about trimming the fat to get those sexy abs. Cardio is the fastest way to burn the fat. If you’re not familiar with Wing Chun, it’s the foundation of Bruce Lee’s martial art. For that reason, the men don’t take women seriously especially the attractive ones. Therefore, some of the men give the least amount of effort to help and are less than welcoming. As my teacher said, “The pretty ones don’t last. They quit when they get a bruise”. I’ll be damned if I will be stereotyped.</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">4) Sex - In general, men are physically stronger than women so I will always be sparring with someone stronger than me. </div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><br />

I can only prove myself in time. But the one thing that I won’t do is to say, “I can’t” and give up. And I’m surely not afraid to fight with a man nor will I be intimidated. </div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">My goal is to master a new skill and become as good, better than the men or even the best! I never limit myself to doing or trying something new. Most females would rather take a dance or yoga class. There’s nothing wrong with it and I have taken some and enjoyed it very much but it’s not challenging enough for me. With my martial art class, I’m sparring with men who are physically a lot stronger and bigger than me in size and it forces me to work even harder and keeps me coming back.</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><br />

I can pity myself for not having perfect lungs by not exercising but I choose not to. In fact, I use that weakness to motivate me to be stronger. Amongst other exercises, I jog 4 miles every other day and over time, I’ve trained my body and lungs to the point where I have so much control and endurance. Cardio is by far my top workout as it builds up my endurance and nothing is better to me than a runner’s high.</div><div style="border-bottom-width: 0px; border-color: initial; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-top-width: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: 15px; font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; margin-bottom: 1.625em; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; outline-color: initial; outline-style: initial; outline-width: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">At home, I have my 2 cats that I’m allergic to plus my asthma, which makes it even harder for me to breath when I jog. I normally jog a 10 minutes mile, it takes me 40 minutes to complete my 4 miles jog. When I do my home workouts, it takes me longer but I don’t avoid it just because it’s harder and uncomfortable. My lungs work extra hard having the cats around. But no matter how long it takes to complete my 4 miles, I just do it! I’ll stop and walk if I need allowing me to catch my breath but I would never compromise my workout just because I have a less than perfect lungs. I give it my best effort and I improve upon it. I found my self-motivation at a very young age. I was an immigrant at 7 yrs. old living in the United States, and if being poor isn’t enough, I did not speak any English nor did I understand the western culture. I remembered when I was in first grade, I was always the last kid to be picked for a team sport because I was the smallest in size and didn’t understand the game or sport. Like most immigrant families to this country, we were extremely poor. I remembered going to school dressing like a little tomboy and my clothing and shoes never quite fit me properly. It was probably a good thing that I didn’t understand what the other kids were saying but no matter what language we speak, teasing is universal. I could tell that I was being made fun of. It wasn’t until I was in fourth grade and after taking a few years of ESL (English as a second language) classes, I began to get the hang of things. I worked really hard to learn the language and practiced the games/sports and was learning to adapt to the western culture.</div><div style="border-bottom-width: 0px; border-color: initial; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-top-width: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: 15px; font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; margin-bottom: 1.625em; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; outline-color: initial; outline-style: initial; outline-width: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Fast forward to my high school years, I was still the smallest in size but I was the captain of ever team sport in my Physical Education classes. I’m proud to say that I have never lost a game and we always won with at least double the opponent’s score with me scoring at least half of the winning points. I never let my size stop me from participating in any sport or anything else for that matter. If it wasn’t for the lack of support from my family, I might have pursued a profession in sports. Sadly, because of the cultural difference, I was brought up that sports were only for boys. I was not allowed to participate in any extra after school sports. No matter what obstacles my life had taken me, my passion for fitness never died but was simply on hold.</div><div style="border-bottom-width: 0px; border-color: initial; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-top-width: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: 15px; font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; margin-bottom: 1.625em; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; outline-color: initial; outline-style: initial; outline-width: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Nevertheless, not wanting to be the last to be picked for a team sport gave me my motivation. I knew how it felt to be an outcast. It’s awful but in some sense I’m glad to have gone through my experiences early on as it made me into the strong person that I am today. Life is not always easy when you’re dealt a bad hand but you have two choices, you can either be a victim of your surroundings or you can be a survivor. You can do it if you work hard and put your mind into it. I truly believe that if you want something badly enough, you can achieve it. Sometimes your pain or humiliation can be the motivating force to change your life and truly that’s what I did. If you have ever been teased, stared at or laughed at because of your appearance, use it to fuel your motivating force. Your natural and first reaction is anger but try not to react, use that energy and choose to take action instead. By reacting to anger you’re allowing people to dictate your emotions and your life. Turn a negative into a positive. Stop feeling self-pity and do something about it. Don’t let the humiliation keep you from action. Who cares what other people think? This is your life!
